Eagle freshman thrower Keenan Mowery-Shields concluded his stellar season at the IHSAA Track and Field State Finals on Saturday. Keenan placed 19th with a throw of 49′ 3″. Keenan bravely battled the cold, driving rain that battered all of the competitors in the meet, persevering for a performance that saw him place higher in the field than he was seeded going into the meet. He showed great fortitude and mental toughness throughout the competition. While he did not throw as far as he expected or wanted on Saturday, his coaches want Keenan to know how proud they are of him and his accomplishments this season. Keenan’s diligent training and studious approach to the sport are both uncommon for such a young athlete, and we are so glad he has justly reaped the rewards his efforts have sown. It is a pleasure and a privilege to work with an athlete of Keenan’s character and caliber. This also concludes the Eagles’ 2024 track and field campaign. In a season marked by successes and challenges, our athletes have much to be proud of. Congratulations again to our new school record holders: 100m dash – Bransyn Hanley – 10.94 100m hurdles – Bailey Brickert – 15.45 Discus – Benjamin Teipen – 157′ 8.5″ Shot Put – Keenan Mowery-Shields – 54′ 11″ 3200m relay – Gabriel Feltner, Emilio Gallegos, Evan Hinkle, Keaton Chew – 8:24.80 These athletes are the best to ever do these events in the history of South Putnam Track & Field, and we thank them for sharing their talents with us.
